Introduction
to Sailing
AYF
Approved Course This course aims to equip participants with the basic
knowledge and skills to safely operate a sailing yacht.
It is relevant to those wishing to charter a sailing yacht or to
progress towards yacht cruising or racing.
This course is conducted over approximately 45 hours.

Logbook Recommended: The
Australian Boating Manual - Dick Gandy COMPLETION Upon successful completion of this course candidates will be
signed off at the Introductory level in the Australian Yachting Federation’s
National Yacht Cruising Scheme Logbook (TL4).

Approved Course PREREQUISITES A basic knowledge of the topics in “Seamanship” and “Navigation”
will be assumed. AYF APPROVED COURSE This course aims to equip participants with the required
seamanship and navigation knowledge and skills to confidently undertake
inshore passages. It
is an ideal course for those wishing to charter a vessel in the Whitsundays. The course is a hands on learning
experience and will cover at an intermediate level:

The Australian
Boating Manual – Dick Gandy COMPLETION Upon successful completion of this course candidates may be
signed off for the appropriate components of the Australian Yachting
Federation’s National Yacht Cruising Scheme Logbook (TL4).
Upon successful completion of Seamanship, Navigation and appropriate
practical training and experience the QYA may issue an AYF Inshore Skipper
Certificate.
A good knowledge of the topics in “Seamanship” and “Navigation”
will be assumed. Marine Radio
operators Certificate of Competency, Navigation, Safety and Survival at Sea or
Occupational Health and Safety at Sea, First Aid Certificate. AYF APPROVED COURSE This course aims to equip participants with advanced
seamanship and navigation knowledge and skills to confidential undertake
offshore passages. This practical course covers:
The course will include practical sailing, passage
making and overnight passages. This course is conducted over approximately 80 hours. Provided:
TL4 Logbook Recommended:
The Australian Boating Manual – Dick Gandy COMPLETION Upon successful completion of this course candidates
will be signed off for the relevant components of the Coastal Skipper or
Yachtmaster Offshore levels in the Australian Yachting Federation’s National
Yacht Cruising Scheme Logbook (TL4). Upon
successful completion of other required training and/or experience, candidates
may apply to the Queensland Yachting Association for examination
leading to the Australian Yachting Federation award of either Coastal
Skipper or Yachtmaster Offshore. Examination
by QYA will be oral and practical. Eligibility
for examination will also require candidates to hold a Marine Radio Operators’
Certificate of Proficiency and a current recognised First Aid qualification.
Will be run
“on demand” for groups of ten – approximately $110 each participant.
